If you come to the Pelješac peninsula from any direction by land, the first to come your way is picturesque Ston, a medieval town located next to the sea. Although small, Ston is the keeper of great values - European as well as world ones. Precisely there you will find impressive Ston City Walls, the longest fortress system in Europe and second longest in the world. Now they measure 5.5 km, and their height varies between five and ten meters. They have three entrances and consist of Ston Walls and Mali Ston (construed according to precise urbanite plan), the Great Wall and 41 towers and 6 bastions. Impressive isn’t it?

Become a part of the history of this world herirage and pass the walls which will additionally reward you with a remarkable view. In it, you will also notice the salt pans of Ston saltworks, the oldest in Europe and possibly in the world in which since antique all until today the salt and flower of salt have been produced in a natural, traditional way. Also visit museum Lapidarium, located in the Bishop's Palace from the 16th century, which preserves one of the richest collections of sacred heritage of the south of Croatia.

Apart as a town of salt and walls, Ston is also known by its oysters, seashells which make real gourmets sigh.They will confirm that the oysters from Mali Ston bay where they had been grown by Romans as well, are among the most delicious in the world. Although today chefs prepare them in various creative ways many will say that the oyster is most delicious when it is fresh from the sea, namely raw and dripped with a few drops of lemon juice.

In the area of Ston you will see its vineyard in the surroundings of Ponikve settlement as well asin a picturesque location Putnikovići, in which there are a cooperative farm and winery by the same name.

Visit the Ston field as well, which is covered with olive groves and vineyards and had been divided by old Romans by so called Centuriation (division of land plots), in which numerous small churches and chapels are scattered as pearls. The oldest church, the Church of St.Michael, with valuable and oldest frescos in this area can be seen on the hill towering above the field. It is supposed that the church once used to be a palace chapel within Knežev dvor (The Rectors Palace).
